Yaacov Naor presents workshop at NYEA, October 15 & 16

TAKING CARE OF HEART WISHES: SELF CARE IN THE HERE AND NOW

New York Expressive Arts (NYEA) is hosting a two-day intensive with Yaacov Naor on October 15 and 16 (Saturday 11am to 7pm and Sunday 9 am to 4 pm) at 4 Central, Albany, NY.

This workshop is about all of us and can be a starting point for changing attitudes about caring for ourselves in a world that often demands production, achievement and speed over mindful and imaginative action. Yaacov (one of the leading and most playful and soulful practitioners in the field of psychodrama and the expressive arts), will bring his many years of experience in psychodrama, therapeutic theater and expressive arts approaches to this dynamic, active yet gentle unmasking process. Participants will have an opportunity to explore the different ways we internalize experiences in the role of the aggressor and the victim which shape our thinking about self care. Many of us have encountered people who are aggressive towards themselves through alcohol, drug abuse, over eating, under achieving, over working and other self abusive strategies.
This is usually the result of growing up with criticism and judgmental emotional atmosphere. We become unwilling victims of ourselves. We create inner enemies. This kind of development can affect our relationships with others. As we move toward unmasking our hidden tendencies, we increase the possibility of seeing alternative ways of being in the world and eventually acting out of them.

Cost is $100.00 To reserve your space and/or for more information – email denie@newyorkexpressivearts.com or call 518 768-2708.

From Denie………I have known Yaacov Naor from the beginning of my expressive arts adventure and he is now a treasured friend and colleague. When I think of him and the compassionate and courageous work that he has done for so many years, I think of something that can only be said about a purely non-judgmental person, that “nothing human is foreign to him”. His mind is clear and sharp and his heart is big. This is a workshop you will never forget.

A summer (& website) update!

We’re happy with the positive comments we have received about the new look for our website. Many thanks to Carolee Sherwood for all the creative energy that she has poured into updating the site and patiently teaching me how to maneuver through the process. We are continuing to refine our system and encourage our readers to send comments and contributions to our Bulletin Board.

Now that summer has officially arrived, I hope you will find your way to the studio for a Wednesday night painting class (July 13, August 10) or the next free Introductory workshop on July 9. More detailed information on both of these expressive opportunities can be found on the Bulletin Board. We are accepting registrations for the 2011-12 Expressive Arts Training Programs, as well, and you can find that information under the “training” tab above.
